  1. April Suggestion:
This film is available from Netflix and received a 97 on Metacritic! It was nominated for best foreign film at the Globes last year and I have been meaning to see it:

    4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days
"During the final days of communism in Romania, two college roommates Otilia and Gabita are busy preparing for a night away. But rather than planning for a holiday, they are making arrangements for Gabita's illegal abortion and unwittingly, both find themselves burrowing deep down a rabbit hole of unexpected revelations. 2. From Brian:
Adventureland - opens April 4. Check it out in your Sundance catalog if you still have one. The preview touts that this movie was made by the same people that made Superbad so that should tell you something.

  3. From Scott B. Cohen:

A.O. Scott and Scott B. Cohen (I have not seen it yet) recommend a 2008 Cannes entry entitled "Wendy and Lucy," which is a confirmation of the tough economic times we face. In the movie, Wendy Carroll is driving to Ketchikan, Alaska, in hopes of a summer of lucrative work at the Northwestern Fish cannery, and the start of a new life with her dog, Lucy. As her car breaks down in Oregon, the thin fabric of her financial situation unravels, and she confronts a series of increasingly dire economic decisions, with far-ranging repercussions for herself and Lucy. Wendy and Lucy confront issues of sympathy and generosity at the edges of American life, revealing the limits and depths of people's duty to each other in tough times.

For those of us who think Hollywood has gone too far and wish to escape from escapism, "Wendy and Lucy" sounds like a winner.
